Hello! Here's what's coming...


I noticed a massive surge of followers coming from the now-ended Indie Bundle for Palestinian Aid (and we managed to hit the 90% of the $1m goal!), and some were wondering how to download the game since there was no download link anywhere. I thought it would be a good idea to explain what was going on here and tell them what to expect in the coming while:

  • I'm not going to lie, Roses has had quite a turbulent development life and only recently things have been looking up. I have posted a previous post showcasing what the game looks like now and things are going way smoother than before.
  • Currently I'm building a demo with two phases, the first one is a showcase of how cutscenes would work and the other phase will be a small battle to test the battle system in the game.
  • The first phase consists of one scene (the one pictured in the screenshots) in the first chapter that introduces 3/4s of the protagonists, it will contain one cutscene to showcase the characters, environment, sprite animation and dialog.
  • Once the first phase is released, there will be small increments included to refine the camera work, bug fixing and UI.
  • Once the first phase of the demo is refined enough, work on the next phase will start to get a functioning battle system running.
  • For the time being there will only be windows only as many players on Mac and Linux have been facing some problems (though they managed to make work using wine), I don't have Mac or Linux systems with me at the moment, but I will release the game natively on those systems once I get to the bottom of what's making it work.
  • I have not tried this new system on mobile yet, but I will leave that as later thing to worry about. While the game does require only one finger for input (if using a touch screen), I will still need to think of a way to make the UI work for small screens.
  • these two phases are mainly just to build the skeletal underworkings of the game, with it I will be able to build the rest of the chapter before the rest of the story.

At the moment there are about ten more sprites to work on for the demo for the first phase demo, I can't put a specific date on the matter but it will be up very soon!
